Managing Mother’s Day during COVID

Managing Mother’s Day during COVID

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th! Sadly, you will not be seeing our outdoor tent this year…

With the Premier’s decision to gradually re-open some non-essential businesses as of May 11th, we will be doing our best to accommodate the needs of our clients as they look to celebrate Mother’s Day with flowers.

To achieve this, we are offering the following 2 services:

– Contact-less Deliveries
– Curbside Pick-Up

The details of these services will be listed below. Please note that with the expected increase in deliveries, we will NOT be able to accommodate specific delivery times.

From May 4th-10th, our website will showcase a limited selection of products being offered for Mother’s Day. Quantities are limited so we recommend you order as early as possible to secure the arrangement of your choice! Sadly, clients will not be able to come into the shop to choose the flowers they would like in their bouquet.

For other inquiries such as funerals, please call us with as much advance notice of delivery as possible.

As a final note, the city required a portion of our parking lot as they undertake construction along Cote-Vertu BLVD West, therefore the best access for pick-ups will be on St-Germain ST South.

– Contact-less Deliveries.

  1. The driver will ring the doorbell or call the recipient & place the arrangement at the door.
  2. The driver will back away to the advised safe distance of 2m.
  3. The recipient will open the door and confirm their identity.
  4. If no one is home or does not respond to phone calls, WE WILL leave the arrangement at the door or arrange another delivery time, if applicable.

*Incorrect recipient information that results in multiple delivery stops will result in a second delivery charge (ex: apartment number; house address; incorrect phone number)

-Curbside Pick-Ups. Please be mindful of 2M distance!

  1. When placing your order you will have the choice of a 10am-12pm; 12pm-2pm; 2pm-4pm pick-up time slot.
  2. Using the entrance on Rue St-Germain (South), drive or walk up to the Cedar plants marked with the ‘X’.
  3. Call 514-747-2581, give your name and/or order number.
  4. We will deposit the arrangement on the outside table and you will be free to take it yourself!

*Please note that all pick-ups must be payed in advance by credit card. No cash accepted.

**To prevent a line-up, we will not be able to accommodate order add-ons on the spot.

Non-Red Roses in the Spotlight!

Non-Red Roses in the Spotlight!

Can we take a moment to talk about roses? And not just red roses (lets be honest, they already get a LOT of attention) but ruffled Pink Mondials; tinted blue Tibets; soothing Playa Blancas; delicate Coolwaters; fiery Circuses; and timeless Tiffanys. So take a moment to appreciate their beauty and keep reading to find the products in which we have featured these beautiful blooms!

Did you notice the different whorls in the above pictures? Whorls are the ways in which the petals are arranged on a stem and no, they’re not all the same! Some petals are twisted while others are quincuncial (try saying that three times in a row!) but we won’t get too much into detail there. First off we have the pretty Pink Mondials! A new variety to our store, this rose was put in the spotlight because of its uniquely ruffled two-toned petals. If you look closely, you’ll see that the tips of the petals have a creamy tint. This also happens to be a trait in the white Mondials, but in its case the tips are green. The Mondial siblings aren’t always a first choice when other solid white or pink roses are available, but we hope that the pink Mondials become a first choice once people see them in the Pink/White Mondial Bouquet!

Have you seen a blue rose before? These specialties are actually white roses which have been given blue water as its water source. As it sucks up the water, the petals become dyed! The royal blue that is the result does not look as good as on its own, so we keep our blue roses featured in the simple Blue Rose Bouquet. Complimented by the white baby’s breathe, the roses really POP!

Cool water mauve has been a popular choice for anniversaries and birthdays. Their (quincuncial) bloom opens into a large flower that isn’t expected when initially taken home. They make wonderful companions to large oriental lilies in the Fabulous Bouquet, a best seller at Le Bouquet since 2012!

Circus roses are truly spectacular when they open: the petals almost seem to bend backwards, and the red tips create a sort of fiery illusion. Not to mention they are The Roses Etc bouquet include 12 circus roses, yellow lilies and yellow gerberas. This way the two-toned petals shine amongst the other bright yellow flowers.

The Playa Blanca roses are the closest we come to carrying garden roses year-round. They have a higher petal count than normal roses which give them a more wildflower appeal, so pairing them with light purple stock, deep mauve lisianthus and blue-green seeded eucalyptus creates a stunning high-end wildflower arrangement, the Playa Blanca.

The Tiffany rose: our number 1 best selling wedding flower for bridal bouquets thanks to its soft peachy tone and delicately twisted petals. Pairing it with white flowers, blue-green eucalyptus, soft pink roses and seasonal ranunculus, the Delilah bouquet becomes a graceful and whimsical piece for any romantic.

So why not try something new! Be creative! Explore our many arrangements on our website and don’t be afraid to come into the Le Bouquet St-Laurent shop in Ville St-Laurent to make up something special with our florists.

The Sentiment Bouquet: Mother’s Day Edition

The Sentiment Bouquet: Mother’s Day Edition

Sunny yellow, vibrant orange, luxurious purple, classic red and whimsical pink: have you ever wondered what certain colours represent?

The itch to create something new finds itself around the coming of spring, and luckily Mother’s Day is just in time! The upcoming holiday seemed the perfect occasion to introduce this signature bouquet because people are always looking to find their mom a gift with special meaning. We’ve devised a bouquet that includes our most classic flowers but with a twist: we’ve emphasized colour as the focal point of the gift. Florists are asked again and again what colour flower is best for a particular occasion and the most common answer is whatever that colour represents to you or them.

In this article we’ve outlined the symbolism behind 5 colours so that you can tailor your mother’s day bouquet perfectly to best reflect what she means to you. Additionally, every bouquet will come with a card that tells her what the colour represents. Happy reading!

Yellow: cheerful, playful, happy

We all know someone who is never without a smile, has a laugh that can brighten the room and a sense of playfulness that can put even the grumpiest of people (or kid) in a good mood. If this is the kind of person your mom is, then yellow is her colour. Like the sun she made you strong and helped you to thrive. She picked you up when you were down, put a smile on your face when no one else could and was always busy making sure your childhood was anything but dull. Imaginative daytrips, dancing in the kitchen, singing in the car… the list goes on and on!

Orange: creative, adventurous, warm

Orange represents creativity and adventure! Moms who loved to go on road-trips, camping expeditions and exploring new destinations are the perfect orange candidates. Whether your childhood was jam-packed with family adventures or the creativity of art projects and musical jam sessions, at the end of the day your mom always made sure you felt comfortable in your own skin, safe in your home and warm in your heart.

Red: love, energy, excitement

Beyond the fact that nothing is more classic and elegant than a red rose, red is the universal symbol for love. If you would like to emphasize the love you have for her, then this is the right choice for you. Not only did she love you unconditionally and wholeheartedly, red also represents energy and excitement. Therefore if she was always thinking of the newest and most exciting things for you to do together, then red is for her.

Purple: royalty, wisdom, devotion

Because she should be treated like royalty! She’s already done so much for you that it’s time to spoil her. Purple has represented royalty throughout the years and it has been the colour of regal queens throughout history. Additionally, purple represents wisdom and devotion which finds itself to be very fitting of a queen. So as your mother devoted her life to raising you and continues to guide you through your own obstacles with her wisdom, it may be purple that best suits her.

Pink: femininity, sentimental, affectionate

Pink is well known to represent femininity but less known for sentimentality and affection. If this mother’s day you plan to reminisce on old photo albums and revisit stories from your childhood then pink will appropriately suit the occasion. And if you think back to those moments with affection and gratitude then pink is nothing more than perfect.

The Women behind Le Bouquet

The Women behind Le Bouquet | Le Bouquet St-Laurent Florist

On a day that celebrates and commemorates achievements of women throughout history, we decided to take a minute to celebrate the achievements of three particular women who are close to home. Joseph, co-owner of Le Bouquet St-Laurent, wanted to shine a spotlight on the women in his family because he recognizes the sacrifices they have made and the challenges that they have faced. Below is a brief conversation with Joseph.

****
Who are the important women in your life and what about them merits being spotlighted?

When asked what deserves to be highlighted about my mother and sisters, I’d have to say that they’ve patiently put up with the men in our family. My father was brought up in old school traditional Portuguese ways and I admit that I myself can be hard headed at times. However, growing up we were raised with strong family values which has acted as the glue keeping us together over years of personal hardships.

My mom was and still is an excellent seamstress and would have loved to become one full time. When I was just a baby she was offered a job as a manager at Fabric Ville yet she opted to be a full time mother instead. Even after all these years, I know there is a certain degree of regret in making that decision.

Natalie has always had a strong passion for baking…actually we all did, thanks to my mom! I remember she started off making us chocolate cakes from her Easy-Bake-Oven which gradually became more and more complicated cakes as she grew up. One of her most recent ones was a ‘Cars’ and construction zone landscape for her son’s birthday. After high school Natalie went to culinary school and dreamed of pursuing that career but her strong family ties and loyalty to her father ultimately directed her back to the flower shop.

I believe that Marianne always wanted to be a teacher: she always loved working with kids. Today she is an elementary school teacher, working with kids who adore her.

What hurdles have they had to overcome?

My mom put her personal needs and desires aside for her family which I believe became a difficult reality once we all moved out. My dad always worked long hours and eventually my sister and I did too, but mom remained a stay-at-home mom. And when it came to family dinners, we were truly blessed with her cooking! Making Christmas and Thanksgiving meals for 40 people or more all by herself is something I cannot imagine having to do myself, yet she put her heart into those dishes because family meant everything to her. Those family dinners were our time to make up for those long hours away from home.

Natalie has undergone different struggles, and as hard as it is to admit I think I may have contributed to some of them. In 2008, Natalie and I bought the family business from our dad. Going into business together was a big step for both of us but it also felt right. On the other hand, Natalie had always wanted a family of her own but I did not anticipate it to be so soon after we went into business together. In the years following came my nieces and nephew who I love dearly. As a co-owner of our business and father myself, it was difficult to be on my own while my partner was on maternity leave three times. But I grew up learning that business is business and fair is fair. As much as she has the right to be on maternity leave, I missed my partner and may not have shown it in the kindest of ways. This caused tension in our relationship, but time works things out and I am very happy that we have a strong bond today.

Marianne also had overcome a lot, including two kidney transplants. Being a single mom and going through that… I cannot imagine how difficult that must have been. But she is a strong women, more so than I think she knows.

If you wanted to buy them flowers, what would you ask the florist for?

*Insert Joseph laughing here* That is a good question. Well my mom does love daffodils, but they are not available in time for women’s day. She loves yellow so I would have to get something in that color… probably a bouquet of yellow tulips or even better yellow mimosa seeing as she is Italian and it is THE flower to give on this day in Italy.

As for Natalie, well she likes vibrate and bright colors with big contrast punches. Something with dark pink and dark purple with orange and some greens would be perfect.

Marianne likes sweet smelling things, so I would get the nicest smelling flowers: probably tulips, genet, and mimosa.

And how can I forget my two beautiful daughters…they put up with me too!
I am very lucky and blessed to be surrounded with so many wonderful women in my life!

After some reflection of your own, might I suggest you consider Joseph’s words and bring something to an incredible woman in your life?

This year we propose sending her fragrant yellow mimosa flowers as traditionally done so in Italy since 1946, when it became their national women’s day flower. They even made a special cake for this day: the ‘Torta Mimosa’ which is made to resemble the fluffy little yellow flowers! Additionally to mimosa we suggest purple tulips. Tulips represent springtime, the revival of nature and a new start. One day of 365 may seem inconsequential however that one day revives our cause and reminds us of the work we have yet to accomplish.
